Asking for Help!

Asking for Help…

Help

Help

I’ve been thinking about the fact that asking for help is sometimes seen as a weakness or is uncomfortable to do because we don’t want to burden others who already have a lot on their own plate…

But..

“If you do not go after what you want, you’ll never have it.
If you do not ask, the answer will always be no…” – unknown

And, being able to help someone else can be enormously satisfying…

“It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

When we get really specific requests for help that are ‘easy’ for us to fulfil, in the right way, at the right time, we all feel good.

“If you light a lamp for someone else it will also brighten your path” – Buddha

Sometimes we’d love to help someone else but we’re not sure how exactly – and we could easily get it wrong…

So, to help ourselves and to help those who may help us…

Who do I need help from?
What do I need from them?
What, specifically?
When?

Children seem to do this naturally:

“Mama, please would you test me on my spellings/French, I have a test tomorrow…”

– we would all do well to relearn this skill…

Yes! It does seem to be human nature to want to feel competent and together. But, no one is an island. We grow, learn, and gain support via community. That’s a beautiful way we connect with one another; it’s not a weakness. Great reminder!

Great Topic.Something many of us don’t do enough. I think if your not in a habit of asking for help and do it when your quite vulnerable, it’s even harder when we get a no. So its probably more healthier to ask more often.

What a useful subject to highlight Sian- I like to help others but am in the habit of feeling unable to ask for help myself. My life could definitely be easier if i practiced asking for more help…promise i’ll try!

    Hi,
    Sian
Good self-reflections questions on asking for help. Helping others comes naturally however asking for help seems to be harder at times. Thank you for sharing this topic on your blog.
