October – Time to reflect!

October 2, 2018/by Sian Rowsell

It’s October already!

Despite me feeling like it is just the end of the summer, it is actually October. It’s a great time to reflect – what have you ‘harvested’ this year, what is it time to let go of?

What have you harvested this year?

Recently I read about how we should take this time of ‘harvest’ and the end of the growing season to consider, and be thankful for, what we have grown this year.

[Having written that I’m transported (mentally) back to primary school “We plough the fields and sca-tter…” – just me?]

This harvest I have been enjoying apples and blackberries from the new garden. But these have been grown by the previous owners and so I am enjoying the fruits of their labours – literally…

Time to reflect

As I reflect back on this year and the summer in particular, what stands out to me is that I focussed on my house move and holidays. The reason that I was able to do this during the school holidays is because a few years ago I took redundancy and moved to self-employment. I now have the freedom to choose how to spend my summers.

One of the most special days this summer was a day I spent kayaking in Greece with my two teenage children – harvesting all those hours of watching swimming lessons as they turned into competent swimmers :)

Thank you to Sea Kayak Halkidiki for a wonderful day and for the photos!

What have you harvested this year?

What is it time to let go of?

As we move into Autumn, the trees are turning the most gorgeous colours and are letting go of their leaves.

It’s a beautiful and necessary thing yet we sometimes don’t feel the same about letting go of possessions or habits or organisations – even if they no longer serve us. Although most of us would be happy to let go of a few pounds/kilos…

With my business, I’ve been reviewing how and where I spend my time and/or money and have decided to let go of a couple of things where I’m not seeing return on investment. This can feel a little scary, or liberating – making room for new growth, for trying new things.

What about you? What is it time for you to let go of?

Time to reflect

This October, as you take time to reflect: What have you harvested this year? What is it time for you to let go of?

Hi Sian, I love the theme of considering what we can harvest from our year so far. I really helps me have a clear sense of all the things I am grateful for.
